Death Claims City Pioneer

Death claimed a pioneer who has resided in Prescott for 64 years, when Mrs. Katie Stone succumbed to an illness at her home 216 South Marina yesterday morning.

Mrs. Stone, who arrived in this district with her parents in 1874, had been Ill since December 20. She would have been 75 years old November 25.

Another of the stories of personal contribution toward the growth of Yavapai county, was ended by her death. When she arrived in this area with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James H. Miles, she was a girl of 10. She was reared here during a period when the area was being claimed by Indians and the town was a frontier home of hardy empire builders.

Mrs. Stone was born in Urbana, Ohio. Her parents left that state to become outstanding local pioneers and her life story has been closely connected with that of the growth of this city.

She leaves a son, Warren Stone, of Prescott, a sister, Miss Anna Miles, of Prescott; a niece, Mrs. Elva Carroll, of Mohave, California; two nephews, Bert Harmon, of Grants Pass, Oregon; and Charles Frederick, of Tucson.

The Lester Ruffner Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Services will be conducted from the Sacred Heart church Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock.

Interment will be in the family plot in Citizens cemetery.
