C. C. Stukey Is Found Dead On Senator Road

Former member of Board of Supervisors Discovered at an Early Hour Today

Was Near Cash Mine

Pioneer Resident of City Had Been Failing for Some Time, Friends Say

Chauncey C. Stukey, for four years a Democratic member of the Yavapai County board of supervisors, serving from 1918 until 1922, was found dead on the Senator road near the Cash mine, 14 miles from this city, at an early hour this morning, his death being attributed to an intestinal disorder from which he is said to have suffered for the last two years. He has not, however, been in a serious condition and his sudden death came as a shock to friends and relatives.

Mr. Stukey, who was 64 years of age, came to Prescott in 1890 from Colorado, where he was in the mining business. He was a native of Indiana.

Interested during his residence here in mines and mining, Mr. Stukey also spent some time in the mercantile business, operating the general store at Walker, which his brother, Christ Stukey, now owns, and was prominent in politics. He was a part owner of a mine near Hillside and only this week completed the purchase of the W. J. Mayer general merchandise store at Mayer, planning to operate it and move his family to that place.

In 1922, at the close of his four years in the supervisor's office, Mr. Stukey became a candidate for sheriff, being defeated in the primary election two years ago.

He is survived by Mrs. Stukey, Mrs. W. J. Jamison of Phoenix; three grandchildren, six brothers and two sisters, the latter living in the east. Two of his brothers, Alvin and Chris Stukey, are residents of this county.

Funeral arrangements have not been made yet.
