Brief Illness Calls Away Good Man

(From Thursday's Daily)

Without regaining consciousness, W. E. Lackland passed away yesterday afternoon at about 4 o'clock, at Mercy hospital as the result of a paralytic stroke suffered last Monday morning.

The death of this popularly-known resident is to be deeply regretted. For over 14 years he had been general delivery clerk of the Prescott post-office, and enjoyed the rating of being the most proficient official in the state in his duties. Traveling men who have visited this city for many years, many times have stated that Mr. Lackland was a remarkable person, in recalling names, and features, never forgotten a patron of the office, although many months had elapsed. Postmaster Herndon yesterday paid the deceased this tribute, 'He was without question one of the most accommodating officials ever in the postal service, and in addition to his capability, his character was without reproach during the long years of his service.'

A beautiful trait of the character of the deceased was his generosity, especially to children, to many of whom he gave freely.

The deceased was born at Eutaw, Alabama, about 57 years ago, and came from a distinguished family in that State. Surviving is a sister, Mrs. Cassie L. Morgan, of Eutaw, as well are their many other relatives.

Funeral arrangements are to be made after relatives are to be heard from.

Transcriber's note: Mr. Lackland is buried in an unmarked grave at the Citizens Cemetery in Prescott, Arizona.
