Robert L. Thommen, 78, of Prescott, died on April 10, 2017, after suffering a stroke at home. Robert (Bob) was born on April 17, 1938 (Easter Sunday), in Peoria, Illinois to parents John Paul Thommen and Florence Thommen.

After graduation from Pike High School in New Augusta, Indiana, Bob served four years in the United States Air Force.

Soon after discharge from the Air Force in southern California, Bob met and married Valentina (Val), his loving wife of 48 years. Bob acquired self-taught skills in mechanical engineering and worked in this field over 30 years in Indiana until retirement from the SMC Corporation.

After retirement in 2008, Bob and Val moved to Prescott, Arizona, where Bob pursued his passion for model ship building. Bob suffered a stroke and collapsed while working on a model ship at home and died three days later at the Yavapai Regional Medical Center.

Bob is survived by his adoring wife Valentina; brothers, David, Peter, and John; sister Carol Karwatka; several beloved nieces and nephews; and Max, a rescue cat.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at the VA Chapel, Building 152, VA Health Care Campus, 500 State Route 89, Prescott, Arizona.
