John Carl (Jack) Seggie

John Carl (Jack) Seggie, born Dec. 13, 1937, in Detroit, Michigan, to William C. and Gerda (Falk) Seggie. He passed away on April 7, 2017, in Prescott Valley, Arizona, after a short battle with cancer.

Jack is survived by his wife, Kathy Seggie; children, Linda Seggie, Bill Seggie (Penni), and Amber Nibblelink (Matt); grandchildren, Shane Moore, Jacob Smith, Wyatt Seggie, and Emma, lsabella, Oliver and Everett Nibblelink.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, June Seggie Lieb. Jack was raised in Detroit and Manistee, Michigan. He spent every summer in Manistee and lived there and went to elementary school for a full year when he was 10. He always felt a strong connection to Manistee and his family in Michigan. Jack and Kathy lived most of the year in Prescott Valley, Arizona, and also had a summer home in Onekama, Michigan.

Jack was a veteran of the US Air Force and later attended Michigan State University. He trained as a Journeyman tool and die maker.

Jack had a forty year career in law enforcement. He began as a patrolman in the Prescott Police Department. During his career he was a US Marshall, Chief of Police in Montague, Michigan, and Chief of Police for the Veterans’ Administration in Michigan, and a criminal investigator at the Prescott VA.

Jack was an accomplished wooden boat builder. He made many kayaks, canoes, rowboats and sailboats of the highest quality. He generously shared his boats with family and friends. Jack was also an artisan knife maker. He created beautiful knives, from grinding and sharpening the steel, to making the handle and stitching the leather sheath. Recently he took classes to learn engraving to enhance his knives.

Jack was a voracious reader, of all topics. He never stopped learning and challenging himself. Jack was a friend to everyone he met and was always willing to help in any way he could. He was much loved and will be greatly missed forever.

Memorial service will be held on Friday, May 26, 2017, at 1 p.m. at the Prescott V.A. Chapel. Followed by a burial service at the Prescott V.A. Cemetery.
