His Fall Was Fatal

Charles Lauer, the well known painter and paper hanger, who has resided in Prescott for about ten years, died yesterday from the effects of his fall down a stairway last week, mention of which was made exclusively in the Journal-Miner. While his injuries were painful they were not considered at all serious at first. The principal injury was on his right temple and his eye became very swollen. On Saturday, his condition grew worse, and his face swelled to such an extent as to close both eyes. He became unconscious Saturday night and continued to grow worse until death occurred at 3:30 a.m. on Sunday afternoon.

Deceased was an industrious and honest man, and a good faithful workman. He was about 54 years old.

He was a member of the Tough hose company and was one of the most enthusiastic fireman in the department. He never missed a fire or a meeting of his company if in town and able to go. No matter what sort of weather, wet or dry, cold or warm, 'Charley' Lauer could always be found with the company at a fire. The only known relative living is a sister at Springfield, Illinois, who was notified by telegraph yesterday of his death, and funeral arrangements were delayed pending an answer from her.

A telegraph was received this afternoon from her advising burial here, and the funeral will accordingly take place on Tuesday afternoon at four o'clock under the auspices of the Woodmen's lodge, of which he was a member. The firemen will also attend the funeral.

Deceased was insured for $1000 in the Woodsmen's order.

Transcriber's note: Mr. Lauer is buried at the Citizens Cemetery in Prescott, Arizona.
