Shirley Ann Wayda, 80, went peacefully home to her Lord and Savior
April 24, 2017 in Lake Havasu City.

Born Sept. 21, 1936 in Diamond Grove, Missouri, she was the daughter
of Hugh and Hazel (Carrick) Riggs. Shirley was born on what is now
known as the George Washington Carver National Monument, a national
park.

At age 12, she moved with her family to San Diego. At 19, she met
the love of her life, John Wayda. They wed May 7, 1956. They were
married 61 years and raised three children. The family resided in
San Diego until they moved to North Hollywood in 1961. There, John
began his 33-year career as a teacher with LA Unified.

They moved to Newhall in 1970 and Westlake Village in 1978. Upon
John’s retirement in 1994, they relocated to Lake Havasu City. John
and Shirley enjoyed many motor home trips and other activities.

Singing was a major passion of Shirley’s since she was 8 years old.
She was in many choirs, including church choirs, growing up. She
was a member of the Sweet Adelines for many years and, finally,
belonged to the Colomonde Chorus, a Lake Havasu Women’s Barbershop
troupe. She was passionate about her grandchildren, cooking,
dancing and socializing. Shirley was blessed with two God- given
attributes: a winning smile and perfect pitch.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Hazel Riggs;
sisters Joyce and Rosemary; brothers Dean and Bill, as well as her
fraternal twin Beverly.

She is survived by her husband, John Wayda; son Steve Wayda;
daughters Karee Moore and Diane Guevara; brother Tom Riggs; five
grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is 2 p.m. Saturday, June 3, at Lietz-Fraze
Funeral Home.

Services were placed in the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home.
