| Prescott Evening Courier, Prescott, Arizona Monday, February 9, 1925, page 1, column 7 Miner Killed By Rock Fall At The Sheldon Mike Aker Crushed When Slide Occurs In 650-Foot Level at Walker Mine; Accident Unavoidable Mike Aker, 43, a miner employed by the Sheldon Mining company at Walker, was killed at 8 o'clock last night in a fall of ground which occurred in the No. 6 stope on the 650-foot level at the mine. The man, who had worked for the company for two months, was employed as a miner and was engaged in that work at the time the slide took place. No charge of negligence has been made against the company or against the victim, the accident having been unavoidable. Mine Inspector O'Brien visited the property soon after the accident last night and pronounced it unavoidable, as did the coroner's jury, which brought in a verdict of accidental death. Aker was married and is survived by his widow, who is a resident of Walker. Transcriber's note: Mr. Aker was born Ole Mandius Nilsen Akre. He is buried at the Mountain View Cemetery in Prescott, Arizona. |
