Man Dies As Car Plunges Off Jer. Road

Henry Swanstrom, a machinist employed by the United Verde Copper company and a resident of Jerome for the last four or five years, was killed last night when the Buick car he was driving plunged off the Jerome highway near the railroad and landed nearly 200 feet below, on the Daisy road.

Swanstrom's head was crushed by the fall but he lived long enough to be taken to the United Verde hospital by witnesses of the accident. He did not regain consciousness, however, and died almost immediately after he reached the hospital.

the man had been drinking for several months and is reported to have been in an intoxicated condition when he drove over the bank.

The car, which was a second hand one, practically was pancaked by the fall. It landed upside down, witnesses of the accident said, and was smashed almost flat, no part of it being more than 24 inches high.

Transcriber's note: Mr. Swanstrom's Arizona Death Certificate spells his surname as Sandstrom. He was removed to St. Paul, Minnesota for burial.
