| The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Wednesday, May 31, 2017, page 8a Richard ‘Pappy’ Patton, 86, of Chino Valley died May 24, 2017. He was born Jan. 21, 1931, in Austin, Texas. Richard met his amazing wife, Maggie, in Denver City, Texas, and they were married July 28, 1951. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean War. He retired from the Grand Canyon National Park Service as a shop foreman in 1990. After Richard and Maggie retired in 1990 they moved to Chino Valley to enjoy retirement and the country. He was a Past National Executive Committeeman and Past Department Commander of the American Legion. He was a long time member of American Legion John Ivens Post 42 in Grand Canyon, Arizona. He also was a proud member of the local Masonic Lodge and the VFW. He was a friend and mentor to many and will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Lotti Patton, as well as his brother, Derwood Patton. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Patton of 65 years; three daughters, Laura Nolden, Maggie Tuveson, and Donna Murphy; his sisters, Betty Lou Blackman and Joyce Parsons; and his brother, J.S. Patton. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Services are to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the American Legion Children and Youth program. Information provided by survivors. |
