| Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ >>> Published on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 <<< >>> Nov. 21, 1940 — June 27, 2017 <<< Melvin (Mel) Eugene Byrum, 76, passed away peacefully June 27. He was born in Philadelphia, Tennessee. In 1960, he met the love of his life, Gail Patricia Winslow. Soon after graduation from high school, Mel and Gail married. Mel served in the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed in Newfoundland, Columbus, Mississippi and Travis Air Force Base in California. Mel worked for Hewlett Packard in Cupertino for nearly 30 years. Years later, the couple moved to Lake Havasu City for about a decade. Mel bought his dream car, a 1946 Ford Coupe. That car was his pride and joy. The Byrums would show off the Ford at car shows, where they and met many new friends and car enthusiasts through car clubs. Mel’s nine grandchildren (Erik, Haley, Jeff, Austin, Ashley, Angela, Julia, Jessica and Christian) loved to “cruise.” Mel is survived by his wife of 57 years, Gail (Morgan Hill, California) daughter and son-in-law Deana and Ken Skelton and their three children, son and daughter-in-law Doug and Kim Byrum and their three children, son and daughter-in-law Clint and Sheri Byrum and their three children, sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Estill Eversole and their two children, sister Freda Stevens and her children and many cousins in Tennessee as well as the Winslow and Hart relatives in California. |
