Theresa Amato, 92, died July 26, 2017.

Also known as Gram, Tessie or Aunt Tess to many, she was a force to
be reckoned with. Theresa had a great heart, an indomitable spirit
and a smile that could light up any room. We will miss her terribly.

Theresa was born June 5, 1925 in Brooklyn, New York. She married and
had two children, Joseph and Nancy. After a divorce, she worked
multiple jobs as a secretary and waitress to support them. Theresa
later worked for an investment management firm in New York City
until her retirement.

During those years in New York, there were many wonderful times with
family and friends but she also faced difficult challenges with her
own health as well as the terrible illness and passing of her
daughter Nancy and later her loving son Joseph, who passed suddenly
in 2004.

She moved to Lake Havasu City in 1996 after visiting her friend
Jeri, which kind of shocked our family considering how far it was
from New York. But Theresa truly loved Havasu.

No shrinking violet, Theresa quickly joined various social
organizations including the Lions Club. She founded and became
president of the New Yorkers of Havasu in 2001, later renamed New
Yorkers of Havasu and Friends so others could join. She made many
dear friends in Havasu and loved them all. We are comforted that
some visited her in her last days and were with her holding her hand
when she passed.

Theresa leaves behind her grandsons Louis, his wife Stacey, Thomas,
his wife Christina; granddaughter Patti Ann, her husband Tommy and
her great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Jonathan, Joseph, Juliet,
Christian, Donna, and Thomas. She also leaves behind her daughter-
in-law Marianne, nephew Bobby, his wife, Michele as well as her
great-niece, Jessica, her husband Angelo and great grand-niece and
nephew Juliana and Carmine.

A memorial service is at noon on Aug. 12 at Our Lady of the Lake
Catholic Church, 1975 Daytona Ave.
