| Arizona Weekly Journal Miner, Prescott, Arizona Territory Wednesday, January 28, 1899, page 3, column 6 Died From Heat - Mrs. Seth B. Smith, wife of an electrician of the United Verde Copper company, arrived at Jerome last Saturday to join her husband. The meeting of the couple was a very sad one as their little fourteen-month old child died in route from the effect of the heat in crossing the desert. The little one was taken ill at Barstow and Mrs. Smith telegraphed her husband to meet them at the depot in Jerome with a doctor. He became alarmed and met the train half was between Jerome and the Junction on a track bicycle. When the party arrived at Jerome he was compelled to carry his dead infant to his new home. The baby had died just as the mother was changing cars at Ash Fork, six hours before. Transcriber's note: This child's place of burial has not been found. |
