Steve J. Sayers, 71, passed away on Aug. 15, 2017, at the Northern
Arizona VA Hospice in Prescott, as a result of the progression of
Liposarcoma with which he was diagnosed in August 2013.

Steve was born on June 16, 1946, in Elmhurst, Illinois. After high
school he moved to Flagstaff, Arizona, where he earned a bachelor's
degree in Forestry from Northern Arizona University. After
graduating college, Steve served in the military in the Vietnam War.

After service in the military, Steve met his wife, Pat, in
Flagstaff, and they married in June 1973.

Steve moved to California to begin his career with the California
Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF). He relocated to
Kelseyville when he became manager of Boggs Mountain Demonstration
State Forest on Cobb Mountain, and he managed the forest until his
retirement from CDF.

Steve and his wife were residents of Kelseyville for 26 years prior
to moving to Prescott. Steve enjoyed the outdoors as a bicyclist,
motorcyclist, and hiker.

Later in life he combined his love for the outdoors and dogs by
joining the Yavapai County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Dog Unit.
Steve enjoyed being a member of the search dog unit; especially
training his search dog, Lucy, and conducting searches with the
team.

Steve is survived by his wife of 44 years, Pat; son, Mark; daughter,
Amanda; the rest of his family, and numerous friends. Steve was
preceded in death by his parents.

The family of Steve Sayers wishes to send a special thank you to the
Yavapai County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Dog Unit. Steve is dearly
loved and he will be missed.
