An accident on the S.F.P. & P. occurred late night at about 7
o'clock, which was attended with fatal results.

An engine and caboose on the P. & E. was backed up the grade and
when about five miles from Prescott on the main line of the S.F. P.
& P. ran into two steers, which threw the caboose and engine and
tender down the bank.

Engine watchman, Ed Hanks was jammed between the tender and cab, and
instantly killed, his body remaining pinned in that position until
this morning when it was extricated.

Engineer Clements and Fireman Reilly were slightly injured and
Brakeman Merritt is in the hospital wounded also.

The accident was unavoidable to any one under the circumstances.

Transcriber's note: Mr. Hank is buried at the Citizens Cemetery in
Prescott, Arizona.
