Ernest Lee Sorrells was born Dec. 9, 1924, in Prescott to Mattie Mae and David Benjamin Sorrells and passed away peacefully at the Veterans Administration Hospice Care Unit in Prescott on May 19, 2017.

Lee grew up on Sorrells Ranch in Peeples Valley where they raised Angora goats. When the price of Mohair dropped, Lee's mom sold the goats and bought cattle. The ranch still runs cattle to this day.

Lee met Bonnie Cameron when she was a waitress at the 89'er Café in Peeples Valley. They were married 71 years at his death. They had four children, Richard Lee Sorrels, Edward Clifford Sorrells, Jacqueline Lee Esquerra and David Russell Sorrells. Lee was preceded in death by his sons, Eddie and Dave.

Lee served in World War II. He worked for The Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Bureau of Reclamation for 30 years, holding positions including lineman, electrician, technician and foreman over line crews until he retired. In his youth he enjoyed racing cars and motorcycles and building boat engines. He built an engine for an E-Boat Class and was part of the pit crew that won the National Championship at Miami, Fla.

Lee and Bonnie retired back on Sorrels Ranch where he enjoyed trapping, a large garden, and helping his nephew and brother with their cattle on the ranch. His life tells the story of one who lived with adventure, excelled at his work, and was a good and loving man to his family and one loyal to his friends.

Arrangements handled through David's Desert Chapel.
