Michael F. O’Brien passed away on Sept. 11, 2017 in Lake Havasu
City.

He was born March 21, 1941 in Los Angeles, California to Urzella and
Thomas Michael O’Brien.

Mike was raised as a foster child from the age of 18 months. In his
teen years, he was fortunate to have found the care of Harry and Pat
Hutchins. He joined the U.S. Navy at age 17 and proudly served on
nine different aircraft carriers as a Petty Officer 3rd class from
1958-1966.

After his service, he pursued a career in sales and management in
the ceramic tile industry, owning his own stores in Southern
California. Mike moved his family to Lake Havasu City in 1994 and
began a new venture in boat sales. Several years later he joined his
wife Kathy in real estate and they made the perfect team.

He would say, “I just want to put a smile on everybody’s face,” and
he did. He never met a stranger.

Mike greatly enjoyed football, golf, country music and karaoke. Of
course, he always loved being out on the lake which he would call
his “office.”

He was extremely proud of his three children who all have become
successful, loving adults, and adored his granddaughter. He was
affectionately known as “Papa.” More than anything, he loved his
wife Kathy of 28 years, who loved him with all her heart. He will be
missed deeply by all his family and friends, yet never forgotten. We
will carry him always in our hearts.

He was preceded in death by his foster father, Harry Hutchins.

He is survived by his wife Kathy, daughter Michele O’Brien,
stepchildren Laurie Flacy (Kevin), Ryan Edziak (Janet),
granddaughters Ashley and Amy Guerrero, Sloane Flacy and foster
mother Pat Buttcane.

A celebration of Mike’s life is 11 a.m. Sept. 23 at the residence,
3456 Indian Peak Dr.
