| Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ >>> Published on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 <<< Craig Smiley, 81, passed away Sept. 22, 2017. Craig was born July 20, 1936 in Walla Walla, Washington. He lived in Prescott, Washington where he grew up on a wheat farm. Craig retired as lieutenant from the Walla Walla Fire Department where many memories were made with his firefighting “brothers” and their families. In his younger years, Craig enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He spent the last 20 years in Lake Havasu City, where he and his wife played golf and enjoyed life to the fullest with their many golfing friends. As everyone knows, Craig was a jokester -- that could be good news or bad news, but we all loved him and he will be missed. Craig will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Nyla and his daughter, Susan (John) Nakonieczny. Craig also will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, Kiran, Craig, and Travis (Megan), and his wife’s brother, Richard and Karlene Oelke and nephew, Karl, cousin and extended family and friends. Craig was predeceased by his son Craig, his sister Louise, parents Chester and Fern, niece Nyla, and his wife’s parents, Arthur and Alma Oelke. A service in memory of Craig is set for 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 21 at Mount Olive Lutheran Church, 2170 Havasupai Blvd. in Havasu with Rev. Craig Corbin officiating. “For this world is not our permanent home, we are looking forward to a home yet to come.” -- Hebrews 13:14 |
