Vera Hutchings, 80, went to be with the Lord Jesus Oct. 18. She
lived courageously through an extended illness.

She was born in Thayer, Missouri. Her family moved to Costa Mesa,
California in 1955 following her graduation from high school.

Vera enrolled in Southern California Bible College (now Vanguard
University) in the fall of 1956. She met her future husband and
soulmate Harvey there in October 1957. They married in May of 1958.

The couple had three children: Jonathan, Kendall and Elisabeth. The
family lived in various communities in Southern California over the
next 20 years. In 1978, the family moved to Bainbridge, Washington.

Vera was hired as a graphic designer by Kitsap Regional Library in
Bremerton, Washington. She retired with her husband in 1995 and they
bought a home in Lake Havasu City. They began snowbirding for the
next 15 years. During this time, their two grandchildren, Benjamin
and Amy, lived with them for various periods of time. Vera would
shuttle the grandchildren to and from Mohave Community College.

Vera decided to enroll in an MCC silversmithing class while the
grandchildren were attending their classes. This opened up a whole
new vista of talent for her. She thoroughly enjoyed designing and
making silver jewelry, usually incorporating turquoise.

Vera is survived by her son Jonathan, daughter Elisabeth and husband
Harvey. Her son Kendall preceded her in death in 2003.

A celebration of Vera’s life is 10:30 a.m Nov. 21 at the Calvary
Church Campus, 1605 S. McCulloch Blvd.
