TOMKINSON, Mary Theresa

(Maiden Name: Bernardi)

Prescott Evening Courier, Prescott, Arizona Friday, April 5, 1957, page 1, column 7 Woman Pipes Exhaust into Auto, Dies A Thumb Butte Rd. housewife took her own life this morning by running a rubber hose from the exhaust into her enclosed car. She was asphyxiated. Firemen summoned at 11:07 a.m. worked over Mrs. Mary Bernardi Thompkinson, 43, with an inhalator for 20 minutes before they finally gave up. She was the wife of Elmer Thompkinson, mining superintendent at the Iron King mine. Mrs. Thompkinson had not been feeling well last night and in mid- morning today her daughter, Mrs. Pat Hill, who lives nearby, drove over to see how her mother was. As the daughter drove into the yard at 194 Thumb Butte Rd., she discovered her mother's red '56 Ford parked in the driveway, motor idling. A hose led from the exhaust around into a front window, and Mrs. Thompkinson lay unconscious inside the car. She was a lifelong resident of Prescott.
