| The Prescott Courier, Prescott, Arizona Tuesday, June 18, 1991, page 2b Elvara Berry Elvara Marie Berry, 85, died June 17, 1991, in Prescott. She was born Nov. 30, 1905, in Prescott Joseph Campbell and Andrine (Monsen) Engle. Mrs. Berry lived all her life in Prescott, working on and off at the Fort Whipple Veterans Administration from 1923 until her retirement in 1964. She was artistic, winning many blue ribbons at Yavapai County fairs and Arizona State fairs. The fair commission had to establish a new category for her bone jewelry after her first entry. She was a true pioneer, who loved canning and making jellies from wild fruit she picked herself, and she was famous for her large batches of fruit cake that she made from hand-picked walnuts. Survivors include: one daughter, Naomi M. Byrd of Prescott; one son, Walter A. Berry of Prescott; three grandchildren, Raenalda, James and John; two great-grandchildren, Dawn Dee and Kenneth. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 20, at the Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home with Pastor John Doyel officiating. Visitation will be from 3 - 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, at the funeral home. A concluding service will be at Mountain View Cemetery. |
