Pioneer Dies
C. S. Black of Santa Maria Is Found Dead in His Room.
C. S. Black of Santa Maria was found dead in his room in this city
at 1 o’clock yesterday morning. His death is believed to be due to
heart complications and general debility of old age. He was nearly
70 years old.
He leaves no relatives in this county. He settled on what is known
as the Kirkland ranch nearly thirty years ago. He sold the ranch to
E. E. Kirkland several years later and moved to Austin in the Santa
Maria district where he engaged in mining. He came here a few days
ago from Austin to renew old acquaintances.
He was apparently in fair health and was seen often on the streets
until the evening before he was found in bed with life extinct. He
was a fine type of the old pioneer and esteemed and respected by all
who knew him.
Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
