Neoma June Douvas August 26, 1927 - November 20, 2017
June Douvas passed away peacefully on Monday, November 20, 2017, at
her home in Prescott Valley, Ariz. June was born in Joplin Missouri,
on Aug. 26, 1927, and raised there along with her elder brother,
Wayne, by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Charles Waggoner.
As a young adult, June loved the art of dancing and community
service.
She married Augustus George Douvas, relocating with him several
times as he completed studies in the field of engineering and law.
June and Augustus then chose LaGrange, Ill., to fulfill her life’s
desire to raise a family.
Throughout her life, June courageously supported activities and
organizations associated with victims of cerebral palsy. Her
daughter, Katherine June Douvas, was born with cerebral palsy in
1953, and for decades June lovingly and passionately raised and
cared for Kathy, as well as her two sons, George Wayne and Paul
Charles Douvas. She touched the lives of many young children and
adults affected with disabilities, including their caregivers as she
committed herself to loving and helping all who suffered the tragedy
of cerebral palsy. Following the loss of her husband, Augustus,
during 2001 and to be nearer to her children, June relocated to
Scottsdale, Ariz., with her daughter Katherine.
Having recently lost her youngest son, Paul Charles during 2008 she
and Kathy relocated to Prescott Valley.
In her final years June (then challenged with Addison’s disease)
continued to love and support her growing family, including the
children of George Wayne and Hilda Douvas (Alexander George and
Michael Paul Douvas) and her great-grandchildren, Madison and Hudson
Douvas.
June treasured her family and many friends and the many wonderful
times spent with them. Her gentle and loving ways and profound sense
of humor will be greatly missed and forever admired.
Visitation will be held at Sunrise Funeral Home in Prescott Valley
on Monday, November 27, 2017, at 2 p.m. and June will be privately
laid to rest at Paradise Memorial Gardens in Scottsdale, Ariz., on
