Ernest “Ernie” R. Hernandez, 56, passed away peacefully at his home
after a long battle with kidney disease, with his wife by his side,
on November 27, 2017 in Prescott, Ariz. Ernie was born on February
2, 1961, in Phoenix, Ariz., to Rachel and Manuel Hernandez.

Ernie was a teacher most of his life, and his greatest joy was
teaching, mentoring and coaching, whether it was with high school or
college students, Cub and Boy Scouts, or football and wrestling
athletes. Ernie was always ready for adventure and enjoyed the
outdoors, especially hiking the Grand Canyon and Yosemite National
Park. His dream was to hike the Appalachian Trail someday.

Ernie loved to cook and was always trying to refine his skills by
cooking for his family and volunteering this skill to the community
and even trying his hand at running a food truck and restaurant.
However, the most important and special attribute of Ernie was his
love for his family. He was so very proud of his four children.

Ernie is survived by his wife, Jill Hernandez; children, Sabrina,
Sandra, Michelle and Daniel; 8 grandchildren, John Jr., Lia, David,
Alyssa, Adryan, Adreanna, Gabriel and Tyler; his mother, Rachel;
brother, Richard (Cathy) and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews
and cousins.

Ernie was preceded in death by his father, Manuel Hernandez.

Ernie will be missed by all who knew him and is now at peace with
his Lord and Savior.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at 11
a.m., at The Evangelical Church, 2925 W. Polk Street, Phoenix, AZ
85009. Reception to follow after the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that
contributions be made either Yavapai College Foundation - CTEC
scholarship program by calling 928-776-2025 or Prescott High School
Wrestling program in memory of Ernie Hernandez and attention to
Missy Townsend, 1050 Ruth Street, Prescott, AZ 86301.

Hampton Funeral Home assisted with the cremation.
