Pioneer Resident Succumbs
Tom Buckman, born June 17, 1867, in Prescott, died Tuesday, March
29, in the Arizona Pioneer's Home, where he had been a guest since
Dec. 8, 1958.
Services are pending at the Widmer Mortuary, and will be announced
as soon as completed.
Mr. Buckman was the son of John and Sally Buckman, who came to
Prescott from Lexington, Ky., where they were married. His sister,
Mary, was one of the first white children born in Prescott. His
father, a Civil War veteran, operated a stage coach station at Fort
Rock after arriving in this area.
In the early days, Mr. Buckman fought Indians near Seligman, and
Cienega, located on the Cowden property between Walnut Creek and
Seligman.
During his years in the mining business he worked for the Midnight
test, Cornucopia and Jerome mines. In later years he became a
cowboy. It was during this period that he lost a leg while punching
cows in Yava.
He also was known for his fiddling, having played for most of the
dances in Peeple's Valley.
Mr. Buckman is survived by two nephews, Pete Scott and Ray Bennett,
Sr., both of Prescott; and a niece, Mrs. Katherine McNeeley, of
Prescott.
Transcriber's note: Mr. Buckman is buried at the Arizona Pioneer
Home Cemetery in Prescott, Arizona.
