| Eureka-Pacific Current (Pacific, Missouri) Wednesday, October 4, 2017 Sydne Karen Amer, 74, of Brunswick, MO passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at the Brunswick Nursing Home. Memorial services will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, Brunswick, MO, Friday, September 22, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. Pastor Drewitz officiating. Visitation will precede the memorial service from 1:00-2:00 P.M. A private interment will be held by the family at Elliott Grove Cemetery. Sydne Karen Amer was born on November 19, 1942 in Higginsville, MO, the daughter of Ernest Delmar Amer. As a child Sydne was raised by her parents, Eule and Ruth Magruder. She attended Brunswick High School from 1st grade through 8th grade and graduated from Moberly High School in 1960. During high school Sydne was given the John Philip Sousa Award for her performance on the saxophone. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in physical education from Northeast Missouri State University and later earned her Master's degree in counseling. After graduating Sydne taught physical education and was a school guidance counselor. She retired after 31 years from Pacific High School in Pacific, MO. Sydne loved animals, especially her dogs, who she considered to be her children. She was a very generous person and would often give to the Humane Society. Sydne was a loyal member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Brunswick, MO. She was preceded in death by her biological mother and father; her parents, Eule and Ruth Magruder; a sister, Shirley DeWeese; a brother-in-law, Dale DeWeese; a sister-in-law, Carol Magruder; an aunt, Katherine Amer Robinson; a nephew, William "Billy" Magruder; and her beloved dogs, Pudgy, Hooie, and Rufee. She is survived by three siblings, William Eule Magruder (Helen) of Corona Del Mar, CA, Robert Wallace Magruder of Dalton, MO, Matha Lou Koch of Conyers, GA; nieces and nephews, LuAnne Fowlkes (Vernon) of Mike, MO, Jeff DeWeese (Jill) of Indian Grove, MO, Rob DeWeese (Paula) of Lake Nehai, MO, Kimberly Jo Benedict (Jim) of Triplett, MO, Robin Colby (Al) of Decatur, IL, Tad Magruder (Pam) of Rochester Hills, MI, Mark Magruder (Deborah) of St. Joseph, MO, David Magruder of Black Canyon, AZ, Paul Magruder of Twin Peak, CA; and many other loved cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and students. Honorary pallbearers will be Tad Magruder, Kay Robinson, Robert DeWeese, Austen Benedict, Zachary Walhbrink, Jim Benedict, and Vernon Fowlkes.
