Eldon Bowman, 84, of Prescott, Arizona, died on Tuesday, Dec. 12,
2017, in hospice care at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was
born Jan. 21, 1933, in Santa Barbara, California, where he grew up.
He graduated from Claremont Men’s College (now Claremont McKenna
College) in 1954, and received his Master’s and Doctorate degrees
from Claremont Graduate School in 1955 and 1962, respectively. He
served in the United States Army from 1955-1958 and was posted to
Germany, then began his career as a college professor at the College
of Wooster (Ohio) in 1961.
In 1966, Bowman and his family moved to Flagstaff, Arizona, where he
taught Political Science at Northern Arizona University for several
years.
He was an avid horseman, and from 1978-2004 he operated Canyon
Country Outfitters, offering guided trail rides all over Arizona. He
retired to Prescott in October 2004, where he was active in the
Prescott Rotary Club and Westerners Corral.
He is survived by his children, Leonard Bowman of Cheyenne, Wyoming;
Lydia Martin of Chesterfield, Virginia; and Sharon Cockrell of La
Vista, Nebraska; by 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren;
and by his sister, Adele Anderson of Claremont, California.
