J. E. Mahurin Dies After Heart Attack
Funeral services will be held Tuesday for James Ernest Mahurin who
died here Saturday after suffering a heart attack at the family
home, 131 N. First. He died at a local hospital.
Dr. Charles Franklin Parker will officiate at the service to be held
at 2:30 p.m. at the Ruffner Chapel. The body will lie in state from
6 to 9 o'clock tonight at the chapel. Burial will be in the
Mountain View Cemetery.
Mr. Mahurin was born near Bakersfield, Calif., Feb. 23, 1876. He
came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Mahurin and two sisters
to Arizona seven years later. They settled in the Verde Valley and
he became a cowboy. He later ranched and farmed there and in Skull
Valley. He served as a peace officer at one time and was a member
of the Elks Lodge.
Survivors are his wife, Florence Mahurin; a daughter, Mrs. Owen
Green, Winslow; two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Wood and Mrs. Etta Hankin,
Prescott; three stepdaughters, Mrs. V. S. Holly, Glendale, Mrs.
Martin Fischer, Denver, Mrs. Margaret Hards, Gunnison, Colo.; two
grandsons, Ronnie Green, Winslow, and Eward Mahurin, Wilcox; a
granddaughter, Mrs. Robert Herrick, Columbus, Ga.; a great-
granddaughter, Linda Jo. Herrick, Columbus, Ga.; a news, Dan Hankin,
Prescott.
