Mexican Killed In Walker Mine
'The deceased came to his death by a fall of about 65 feet by the
giving away of a certain bulkhead, located between the 600 and 700
foot levels of the Sheldon mine, at Walker, Arizona.'
That was the verdict of the coroner's jury yesterday afternoon,
which investigated the death of Manuel Castillo, employe of the
Sheldon Mining company at Walker, which occurred at 5:20 p.m. on
November 10.
George M. Payne acted as coroner in the absence of Gordon Clark,
justice of the peace, who at the time was attending funeral of Mrs.
J. S. Stark in Phoenix. Mr. Payne left Prescott Wednesday afternoon
for Walker, where he panelled a jury and notified witnesses of the
accident to be present yesterday.
The witnesses examined at the inquest were Tony Taylor and Joe
Ponge, both miners.
The jury was made up of Walker men, including William Crocker, G. A.
Knight, Henry Bettison, J. S. Windsor, C. V. Carlson, and J. H.
Girard.
Transcriber's note: Mr. Castillo is buried in an unmarked grave at
the Citizens Cemetery in Prescott, Arizona.
