Mary Ellen (Combs) Handly

Mary Ellen Handly passed away Sept. 20, 2015 at 94 years of age in
Lake Havasu City. She was born to Kathleen and Frank Combs, March 1,
1921, in Scio, Ore. She married Robert Handly in Otterbein, Calif.,
and they were married for 63 years.

She was raised in Walnut, Calif., and moved with family to Twin Peaks,
Calif., in 1956. She moved with her husband to Green Valley, Ariz., in
1986. After her husband’s death in 2005, she moved to Lake Havasu City
in 2007.

Mary Ellen owned her own beauty shop in Blue Jay, Calif. Years later
she worked as school cafeteria manager in the Rim of the World School
District in Lake Arrowhead, Calif.

She enjoyed quilting, baking, cooking, and knitting, watercolor
painting and sketching. She loved being a homemaker and spending time
with family, especially all the little ones, great and great-greats.
She was a member of the Lake Arrowhead Baptist, Green Valley Baptist
and Calvary Baptist Churches.

Mary Ellen is survived by her daughters, Kay Norman of Lake Havasu
City, Donna Handly of Seattle, Wash. and JoAnn Lopez of Glendora,
Calif.; sisters, Eileen Stanton of Boise, Idaho and Betty Bankson of
Hesperia, Calif.; five grandchildren (including Jon Norman of Lake
Havasu City and Becky Booker formerly of Lake Havasu City); 11 great-
grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Handly; parents,
Kathleen and Frank Combs, and her sister, Lois Handly.

A Celebration of Life will be Friday, Sept. 25, at 3 p.m. at Calvary
Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Havasu, Lake
Hills Inn Long Term Care facility or the charitable organization of
your choice.

Services were placed in the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home and
Crematory.
