| Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ >>> Published on Thursday, September 17, 2015 <<< Nelda Blanch Van Stryland Van Engen, 69, passed away peacefully in her sleep, Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2015 while vacationing in Pagosa Springs, Colo. She was born, Oct. 9, 1945, in Watertown, S.D. to Cornelius Van Stryland and Anna Wildeboer Van Stryland. She graduated from Clear Lake High School in South Dakota and from Dordt College, Sioux Center, Iowa in 1967. She taught school for a number of years in Peoria, Iowa and in Redlands, Calif. Nelda married Larry Eugene Van Engen, June 17, 1974 in Redlands, Calif. They lived in Redlands, Fontana and Blue Jay, Calif., until they moved to Lake Havasu City in the year 2000. They were married for nearly 39 years when Larry passed away, June 3, 2013. Nelda was a devout member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lake Havasu; she was a loving, caring wife, mother and servant. Nelda enjoyed reading, sewing, playing the piano, singing, traveling and visiting relatives and with friends. Nelda is survived by three military veteran sons, Michael and his wife Karen of Eagle River, Alaska, Phillip and his wife Brandi of Riverview, Fla., and Matthew of San Diego, Calif; nine grandchildren, one great-grandson; a brother and sister in law, Harold and Elsie Van Stryland of Pella, Iowa; a nephew, Carl Van Stryland of Sioux Falls, S.D. and a niece, Jill Long of Pella, Iowa. Her parents, her husband and her brother-in-law Loren Van Engen, preceded her in death. A celebration of life is planned with close friends and family. |
