C. Edwards, Former Peace Officer, Dies
A man who served as a peace officer in this county for 14 years,
Charley Edwards, and who apparently started a tradition for his
family, died here Friday night.
Edwards served under George Ruffner and Bob Robbins as deputy
sheriff and was peace officer for the United Verde Copper Company as
well.
He has two sons who are in the same line, Willis Edwards, a city
policeman, and Raymond, a radio operator in the sheriff's office.
He lived in the state 35 years.
Edwards came to Duncan when he was four years of age from Uvalde,
Texas, where he was born in 1884. He served as a deputy sheriff at
Silver City, N.M., under Herb McGraff, well known early day sheriff.
He later worked for the City of Prescott and the State of Arizona.
Other survivors are his wife, Mrs. Minnie Edwards of 823 Fairgrounds
Ave.
Services have been planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Olds chapel,
with the Rev. W. C. Rounds officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF
Cemetery. Visitation period is from 6 to 9 p.m. tonight at the Olds
Mortuary.
