| Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ >>> Published on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 <<< Dick (Richard) Morkert died Nov. 20, 2017 from complications from a vehicle accident he was in on Sept.18, 2017. He was en route to check out his new elk hunting area and to do some fishing and hiking. He was born to Edison and Marjorie Morkert in Polson, Montana on April 13, 1939. He was a man with a heart of gold and loved by everyone he knew. Dick was a member of the Montana National Guard. He spent all of his years in school in Thompson Falls, Montana where he graduated in 1958. Dick was a long-time resident of Fairbanks and Moose Creek. He worked the Trans Alaska Pipeline from start to finish, employed by Peter Kiewit. He was a proud member or IUOE Local 302, from which he retired. He loved Montana so much that is where he retired in 1988. He spent many years doing his two favorite things, hunting and fishing. In 2010, he moved to Lake Havasu City where he spent every spare moment fishing. He was an avid member of Anglers United of Lake Havasu. Dick liked to spend his mornings at Partners Point bundling brush to build fish habitat. He will be greatly missed by lots of people, but his best friends were Dave (Fran) Bohl and Gary (Dianne) Visconti. Dick is survived by his wife of 36 years, Carrie Sturgeon Morkert, two stepsons Steve (Terri) Perkins of Fairbanks and Mike (Michalyn) Sturgeon of Wilder, Idaho. Other survivors include siblings Jim (Maureen) Morkert, Trout Creek, Montana, Carol and (Bob) Pedley, Thompson Falls, Montana, Pete (Kim) Morkert, Thompson Falls, and Howard (Liz) Morkert of Trout Creek. Also his two favorite puppy dogs Tootsie Roll and Lolly Pop and sisters-in-law Gloria Bennett of Kyle, Texas, Cindy Sturgeon Walker of Fairbanks, Alaska and Shelly (Bob) Raetz of Edgewood, Washington, plus many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Edison and Marjorie Morkert and his son Richard E. Morkert Jr. Dick’s funeral service is in Thompson Falls, Montana on July 3 at 11 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church. |
