One of eight siblings, he was born born May 11, 1942 in Fort Stockton, Texas, the son of Anthony and Rosa Blanco. He spent his childhood in Odessa Texas. He excelled in football and track at Ector High School. He married Lajuana Lowery in 1972, and although they divorced in 1997, they remained close for the rest of his life. Sam worked on oil rigs for much of his life, then was a site inspector for OSHA. Finally, at Palm Springs Airport, he directed planes before he retired. In his later life, he dabbled in astronomy, and was well known from Dallas to Palm Springs to Lake Havasu City for his passion for singing, karaoke and dancing. It was through his love of karaoke that he made some truly great friends. He is survived by the love of his Life, Lajuana Blanco, son Paul Blanco, daughters Marcia Blanco, and Michelle Blanco Downs, as well as nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A celebration of Sam’s life is Saturday, Jan. 13. This is an open invitation for friends and family members to attend and share stories of Sam — and, of course, in Sam’s honor, there will be karaoke and dancing. Please bring a favorite dish for a potluck-style buffet. The celebration is 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Eagles, 1561 Marlboro Dr., Lake Havasu City, AZ. 86403. Call 928-855-8897 for details. |
