Martin C. Ramirez

Eastern Arizona Courier (Safford, AZ) - Saturday, July 8, 2017
Martin C. Ramirez, "Marty," passed away unexpectedly June 30, 2017, battling sudden cancer. He was 48. Marty was well liked and will be dearly missed.

Marty was born Sept. 27, 1968, to Linda Ramirez-Rodriguez in Morenci. He grew up in Clifton, moving to Safford his freshman year. Marty graduated from Safford High School in 1987.

Growing up, he and his brother, Cory, spent most all summers under the Clifton Bridge swimming in the river.

His hobbies were fishing, hunting, swimming and most anything outdoors, but he was passionate about rockhounding. Marty spent many, many hours scouring the desert for collectable rocks.

He was great with kids and a talented artist. He also did woodworking. Marty worked most of his life doing remodels and construction, specializing in stucco work. He worked at the Safford Cotton Gin for a few seasons, until he suffered a work-related injury, losing two fingers.

Marty is survived by: his loving mother, Linda Rodriguez, of Safford; his daughter, Ashley Deleon, of Safford; brothers, Cory and Peter Rodriguez, of Safford, and Christopher Ramirez, of Safford; sister, Lisa Torrio, of Safford; aunts, Janet Ramirez and Elvia Gomez; numerous uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins from all over; and lifelong friends whom he considered his family, too.

He was welcomed to Heaven by his loving grandparents, Julio and Mary Ramirez, who preceded him in death.

A Mass of Christian burial for Marty will be conducted Monday, July 10, 2017, at 11 a.m., at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church by Rev. Robert Rodriguez.

A rosary for Marty will be prayed Monday, July 10, 2017, at 10 a.m., at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church by Deacon Carl Vessels.

Family will receive friends Monday morning, July 10, 2017, from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m., also at the church.

Please join the family afterward at the American Legion Swift-Murphy Post 32 for food and friendship.

Arrangements are entrusted to Vining Funeral Home.
