| Eastern Arizona Courier (Safford, AZ) - Saturday, October 4, 2014 Josie Ramirez Hernandez, age 85, of Safford, passed away peacefully in the early morning at her residence, Sept. 17, 2014, with her loving children at her side. Josie, or Chepa as she was known, was born July 24, 1929, in Pima, to the late Alfredo and Regina Ramirez. They also had another daughter, Molly, and two sons, Crispin and Chancho; both are deceased. Josie also has a brother, Alfred. Molly was playing in Solomon when she was handed a note from a young man instructing her to give it to her beautiful sister. Molly handed the note to Josie, which read, "I want to meet you." Josie met this boy at Mario's Market, where he asked her out; she replied yes. Being a gentleman, this boy asked permission to court Josie. Permission was given and Tio Claro asked, "When are you going to marry her?" Within a few months of meeting, they were ready to start their life together; and on Jan. 21, 1949, Josie married her love, Trini Hernandez. Once married, they lived with Trini's parents, the late Santiago and Maria Jesus Hernandez. Trini worked for the Phelps Dodge Mine for a few years, and then he worked for the Post Office until his retirement. They bought a home on 13th Street in Safford, where they would raise their children, Trini Jr., Irene, Bobby, an infant son, Danny, who passed away, and another son Danny, whom they lost in 2001. Josie also lost her love, Trini, in 2009. In their home there was lots of love, laughter and much happiness. Josie spent the majority of her time in the kitchen. She was a wonderful cook and baker. She always made fresh tortillas and her famous lemon meringue and coconut crème pies. Josie never lost her beautiful, happy-go-lucky personality. She will live on in our hearts with the many memories she left us. Always loved, and never forgotten, she will forever be. The family would like to express gratitude to all the friends and extended family who were a part of Josie's life. Josie was blessed with loving children: Bobby, who was constantly at his mother's side; Trinin Jr., whose inner strength she relied on; her beloved Danny, who always had a hug and kiss for Mom; and her ever-loving daughter, Irene, who showed unwavering kindness and patient care in which she took care of her mother, Josie.
