Richard Allan "Papa" Hopfer, a Wickenburg resident for the past 28 years, passed on to greater things Monday, April 26.

He is remembered by all who knew him as a very humble, giving man.

He was married 43 years ago to Nancy in Chicago, Ill. Together, they have three children--Richard Allan Hopfer, Jr. of Oak Park, Calif., Leslee Germiller of Congress, Ariz., and Deborah Oliver of Pocatello, Idaho.

His sister Roxanne Baker is from Carmel Valley, Calif., and mother-in-law Valmer Zorn of Phoenix.

Dick, a graduate of Northwestern University School of Business, served in the United States Navy as a pilot and had a career developing computer programs for McDonald's Hamburger Systems, Motorola, and Dayton Hudson's Department Stores.

He came to Wickenburg in 1972, purchased the AvArt Aircraft Painting business, opened a Ward's Catalog Store, was the interim town manager and served on the town council for several years. He was appointed as a council member on June 19, 1973 and served through Jan. 31, 1975 before resigning. He served as town manager from April 1, 1981 to June of 1982.

Dick also held his real estate broker's license and was affiliated with Coldwell Banker. He enjoyed developing a successful Amway distributorship.

Dick was a very active member of his church. The Second Church of Christ, Scientist of Phoenix. He most currently served as First Reader in church. It was his great love to give service to his church.

He was a wonderful "Papa" to his eight grandchildren: Justin and Jarrod Hopfer; Aimee, Alee, Austin and Alyssa Germiller; and Cassidy and Roxy Oliver; and the best partner in life to his wife.

He will be missed greatly by both family and friends, but will be remembered warmly for his considerate loving manner and unselfish acts of kindness.

Those who wish to make contributions, Dick's favorite project was to replace the church organ at the Second Church of Christ, Scientist, 250 W. Bethany Home Rd., Phoenix AZ 85013.

Any contributions to the church fund would be appreciated.

Frey Funeral Home and Cremation Service handled the funeral service, which was held Friday, April 30.
