The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Thursday, January 4, 1996, page 5a Jasper Crites Jasper 'Jape' Lee Crites, 71, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 1995, in Prescott Valley. He was born June 5, 1924, in Prescott to Frank L. and Josie J. (Farley) Crites. Mr. Crites was a friend and neighbor to all. He was on of the famous Smoki People for many years. He served in World War II with 35 combat missions over Germany as flight engineer and top and Turret gunner of a B-17. Among the decorations and awards he received were the Air Medal with 4 bronze clusters. He worked as a cowboy, and a heavy equipment operator building roads, pipelines, and homes mostly in the Prescott area. Dancing at Reata Pass among other spots was something he enjoyed. Survivors include his sons, Ronnie and John, daughter, Connie; brother, Frank; sisters, Sharlott and Ellen; and three grandchildren. A memorial service is set for 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, 1996, at the Veteran Affairs Chapel at the Prescott Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Prescott. Hampton Funeral Home in Prescott assisted with arrangements. Transcriber's note: Mr. Crites is buried at the Mt. View Cemetery in Prescott, Arizona.
