| Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ >>> Published on Friday, May 8, 2015 <<< >>> Feb. 7, 1928 — April 24, 2015 <<< Longtime Lake Havasu City resident Mary Jane (Hiss) Twomey, age 87 passed away Friday, April 24. Mary Jane was born in South Bend, Ind. She attended St. Mary’s College, and graduated in June of 1950 with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. It was during her college years, that she met the love of her life; James Twomey and they were married Oct. 7, 1950. James passed away just one week prior on Thursday, April 16th. Mary Jane and her husband Jim first moved to Houston where they lived for several years, during which time they had four children, Tim, Mike, Mary, and Pat. Eventually they moved back to South Bend, Ind. to be closer to family and friends. During this time, they enjoyed going to see the “Fighting Irish” Notre Dame games, then attending cookouts at the family home following those games. In the early 1960s, Mary Jane and Jim along with their five children relocated to Los Angeles. For the next 32 years, Mary Jane worked as a director of nurses in the field of geriatric nursing. In 1987, Mary Jane retired to Lake Havasu City along with her husband Jim. She was very active in the Lake Havasu community and served as a director of nurses for Hospice of Havasu. She also was an active member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church community. Mary Jane was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her children Tim, Mike (Carolyn), Pat (Jane), John (Lorinda) and Mary; grandchildren Kelly, Jackie, Courtney, Jeff, Elaine, Kelsi, and Cameron; and great-grandchildren Aiden, John, and Conor. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 30 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 1975 Daytona Drive, Lake Havasu City with final internment at Lake Havasu Garden Memorial Park. Following the services there will be a gathering of family and friends at their home in Lake Havasu City.
