DORRIS,
Carol Jean
(Maiden Name: Standley)
The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona
Tuesday, January 23, 2018, page 6a
Carol Jean Smith-Dorris was born in her grandparents’ home in
Turner, Oregon, on Oct. 18, 1930, to Charley and Mary Standley, and
went home to be with the Lord and many friends and family on Friday,
Jan. 19, 2018, several weeks later than she would’ve liked, but
that’s between her and God.
Carol grew up in Turner and completed her education in the same
schoolhouse. She was hired at AT&T at the age of 17, thinking that
she would stay for a year, but retired from the phone company after
32 years. After retiring, she enjoyed several more years of
employment, working locally in the travel industry and the jewelry
business.
Carol and her husband, Jack, and son, Bruce, moved to Prescott from
California in 1974, where she remained for the rest of her life. She
was a member of First Baptist Church, where she participated in the
choir and was head of Women’s Ministry for 8 years.
Carol was married to Jack Smith for 52 years. Several years after
his death, she married Paul Dorris, whom she knew from church and
always thought to be quite dapper. They were married nearly 10 years
until his death last Easter.
Carol is survived by children Cyndee Lieberman (Don Bonnell) and
Bruce Smith (Cheryl Nuttall); stepchildren, Susan Paluszcyk, Dennis
Dorris and Judy Dorris; and grandchildren, Rhiannon Smith, Jake
Smith and Kristen Lieberman. She’s also survived by great-grand-
daughter, Lily, and several step-grandchildren, cousins, and nieces
and nephews.
A memorial service will be Sat., Jan. 27, 2018, at 11 a.m., at Solid
Rock Christian Fellowship, 148 S. Marina, Prescott.
