George Donald (Don) Grimme

George "Don" Grimme of Wickenburg died Jan. 24 at Wickenburg Community Hospital. He was 69.

Mr. Grimme was born June 18, 1924 in Liberty, Ind. He had lived in Arizona for seven years.

Mr. Grimme served in the United States Army during World War II, from 1942 to 1950. After that term, he joined the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and served from 1950 to 1954.

After his discharge, Mr. Grimme went to work for the NCR Co. of Ohio and continued in their employment for 32 years.

In 1972, he relocated to Cripple Creek, Colo., and belonged to the Cripple Creek Elks' Lodge. He also a member of the Wickenburg Elks Lodge 2160, transferring from Cripple Creek.

He belonged to the American Legion Kellis Draper Post 12 and was active in both the Legion and Elks organizations.

Mr. Grimme was part of the Legion team for shuffleboard, pool and cribbage. He also volunteered his time to the post to call bingo.

Mr. Grimme was the junior vice commander for the Wickenburg Post 12.

He and his wife Betty enjoyed golfing together and traveling. He held a private pilot's license that he obtained in Florida in 1960. He and his wife also enjoyed taking quiet drives to Yarnell, visiting friends and enjoying the countryside.

Mr. Grimme was also a charter member of the Hassayampa River Yacht Club, sponsored by the Rancher Bar in Wickenburg.

Mr. Grimme is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" of Wickenburg; daughter Linda Kirchner of Ohio; son and family Jon, Roxanne and Kenny of Congress; brother Keith Grimme of Ohio; and grandchildren, Amy, Kimberly and Tony of Ohio.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Joyce, a brother and his parents.

Private services were held Sunday, officiated by Neal Garman, Chaplain of the American Legion.

He was buried in the Wickenburg Municipal Cemetery with military honors. The American Legion Ladies' Auxiliary hosted a luncheon after the services.

Wickenburg Funeral Home handled all the arrangements.
