Charles Thomas McKinnie

Charles Thomas McKinnie of Lake Havasu City died of cancer at home,
March 24, 2015. He was 80 years old. Born Feb. 15, 1935, Charles
served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1974, including a tour in
Vietnam in 1969 where he was awarded a Bronze Star.

Charles earned an undergraduate degree and an MBA from the University
of Phoenix. He was an avid reader on topics from aviation history to
southwest Native American history, a subject he taught at Mojave
Valley Community College. The son of a senior aviation industry
executive and Army Air Force pilot, Charles continued the family
aviation legacy as an active sailplane and airplane pilot and
instructor. Charles was deeply concerned for the poor and
disadvantaged and was an active volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul both
in Needles, Calif. and Lake Havasu City. He also served in many
volunteer roles in support of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in
Lake Havasu.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Hoefler McKinnie; a sister,
Carolyn McKinnie Rodseth; as well as children from a previous
marriage: David McKinnie, Carolyn McKinnie, Sharon Bodine, Linda
Conroy and Thomas McKinnie; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Sandra McKinnie Oehmen.

Tuesday, a rosary will be said at 10:30 a.m. with the memorial mass
following at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake
Havasu City.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Vincent de
Paul of Needles or Hospice of Havasu.
