Father To Take Care Of His Children
Arrives Here Following Death Of The Mother At County Hospital
Tuesday
After a 36-hour wait from the time of the death of their mother to
the time of arrival of their father whom it was thought had deserted
them, and during which period their future lives were left to the
mercy of fate, five small children, three boys and two girls ranging
from age 3 to 14, are assured that their father will support and
rear them.
The father, Frank L. France, who has a business in Jerome, upon
receiving word that his wife had died in the county hospital her
Tuesday rushed to Prescott yesterday and on arriving here declared
that he would pay all funeral expenses and take care of the
children.
After the death of the mother, the children were left to the mercy
of charity, being taken care of by president of the local associated
charities, Mrs. Nathan Levy at her home, assisted by other
charitable people, who responded to her appeal for assistance by
donating clothing, provisions and money.
If nothing had been heard from the father or other relatives, who
live in Kentucky, it had been intended to turn the children over to
the care of the State Industrial School.
Mrs. Leona France, the dead mother of the children, comes from
Poplar Bluff, Arkansas. About a year ago, the husband filed suit
for divorce which was denied, he being ordered by the court to
contribute $50 per month towards the support of the wife and
children, which he has done.
Transcriber's note: Mrs. France is buried in an unmarked grave at
the Citizens Cemetery in Prescott, Arizona.
