| Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 - Eleanor Marie Smith passed away at 87 years of age, Feb. 4, 2015 in Austin, Texas. She was born to Mary Eliza and Jess L. Perkins in Los Angeles, Calif., Oct. 31, 1927. She was wed to Lawrence “Corky” Smith, Jr., Dec. 20, 1946 in Pasadena, Calif.; they were married for 65 years until his passing in May 2012. Eleanor lived in El Monte, Calif. from 1927 to 1946; Baldwin Park, Calif. 1947-1963; Hacienda Heights, Calif. from 1963 to 1989; and Lake Havasu City, from 1989 to 2015. She graduated from El Monte High School in El Monte, Calif. She was employed at Von’s Grocery Stores. Eleanor loved tennis, bowling, and being with family. She was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Lake Havasu City. Eleanor is survived by her sons, Lawrence Smith, III and Steven Gene Smith; daughters, Michelle Gail Klovanish and Kathleen Sue Slagle; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence “Corky” Smith, Jr.; father, Jess L. Perkins; mother, Mary Eliza Perkins; brother, Gene Perkins; and sister, Lavonne Brannigan. Eleanor will be greatly missed by her many friends and family alike. Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Feb. 28, at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Lake Havasu City.
