| The Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Tuesday, March 6, 2018, page 3a William R. “Bill†Owens, 98, of Prescott, Arizona, formerly of Clinton, Illinois, passed away Dec. 5, 2017, in Prescott, Arizona. Graveside Services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday March 13, 2018, at Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Michael Taylor officiating. Military Honors will follow the graveside rites. Memorials may be directed to the Clinton V.F.W. Bill was born Oct. 2, 1919, in Clinton, Illinois, the son of William R. and Nancy (Crum) Owens. Bill is survived by his partner, Marge Hartman, Prescott, Arizona; sister, Marie Blue, Clinton, Illinois; many nephews and nieces. Bill was preceded in death by his brothers, Don Owens and Hubert Owens; and sister, Maxine L. Maltby. Bill enlisted in the military in 1939 and served until 1946. He served in the Navy and saw many of the naval battles in the South Pacific. He served as a radio communications officer on five ships, including two flagships. During the Vietnam War, he served in Okinawa, directing air traffic. He was awarded many medals, including the “Bronze Star.†After his time in the service, he worked 36 years for the Federal Aviation Administration as an Air Traffic Controller based in Hawaii.
