| Wickenburg Sun (Wickenburg, Arizona) Wednesday, September 20, 2017, p. A-5 Archie Lee Rundle, 100, passed from natural causes Sept. 7, in Aguila. Archie was born on Dec. 24, 1916 in the small town of Wibaux, Mont., to William Oliver Rundle and Margaret Cora Rundle. Archie was the youngest of four children. At the age of 22 he registered for World War II listed in Wells, Nev. One of his greatest interests in life was building and flying airplanes. In 1938, he was certified as a member of the OX5 Aviation Pioneers for participating in the design, construction and operation of the powered aircraft prior to the 1940s. Another memorable accomplishment is that he knew Amelia Earhart and they flew together in Oakland, Calif. After one date, Archie married Estella Blanche Clement on May 16, 1946 in Dillon, Mont. He later accepted a job and moved to California to eventually settle down in Alameda, Calif., and raise a family. Archie & Estella later divorced however, he bought a house around the corner and rode his bike daily to visit her. Once Archie was unable to no longer care for himself he moved to Aguila with his daughter Margaret to help care for him. Archie is preceded in death by his parents; siblings Irene, Ralph, Glad; and daughter Barbara Gehring. He is survived by his daughters Mary Wright and Margaret Sawyer; sons Gaylord Rundle and Steve (Debbie) Rundle; grandchildren Barbara Rather, Kenneth (Melissa) Sawyer, Katherine Sawyer, Victoria Wright, Nicholas Rundle, Chelsie Rundle, Melissa Rundle; and great-grandchildren Taylor Sawyer, Dylan McGrew, Connor Sawyer, Aaron Sawyer, Breana Sawyer and Victor Wright. He is also survived by extended family with nieces and nephews and their families. His daughter Margaret is acknowledged for all the time, care and love that she provided so that he did not have to be placed in a nursing home years ago. She was present when he passed and felt the comfort that he was at home rather than a facility. A Graveside Service will be held at Green Acres Cemetery in Scottsdale on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 11:30 a.m. See Also: Find A Grave |
