William "Bill" Alfred Jones, 84, passed away peacefully on Friday,
Sept. 3, 2010, at Hospice Compassus in Payson.
He was born and raised in Prescott, Ariz., joined the Navy at 17 in
1943, and became an electrician aboard the aircraft carrier
Bennington, stationed in the South Pacific. He was discharged in
1947, returned to Prescott and began working for Arizona Power
Company.
He retired from APS in 1983 after working for the company as a line
foreman and construction supervisor for 25 years. His crew provided
power from Payson to the top of the Mogollon Rim and communities
south to Tonto Basin.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joanne; daughter, Cindy
Lewis and her husband John; and four grandchildren, Logan, Brianna,
Connor and McKenzie Lewis.
Mr. Jones lived a long, fulfilled life, writes his family. He loved
living in "God's Country" below the Mogollon Rim and was happiest
fishing, camping, traveling, and enjoying his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 19 at the
Community Presbyterian Church, 800 W. Main St., Payson.
A reception will follow the service at Green Valley Park.
