| Today's News-Herald, Lake Havasu City, AZ - Posted on April 3, 2018 - Robert Nelson, 93, of Lake Havasu City, passed away March 20, 2018. Bob was born to Ira and Vivian Nelson in Wray, Colorado on Nov. 8, 1924. Bob attended East High School in Denver and graduated at age 16. In 1941, The Denver Post selected his photograph as “Colorado’s symbol of the National Youth Administration.” He attended Pueblo Junior College. Author James Michener was his literature instructor. In 1943, Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he was an aviator electronic tech working on the development of unmanned aircraft. He was honorably discharged in 1946. On Nov. 27, 1947 Bob married the love of his life, Betty Jane Carpenter, at Eddie Malone’s Wedding Chapel in Los Angeles. A loving father to four children, he was an entrepreneur and inventor. He has resided in Havasu since 1974. Bob is survived by wife of 70 years, Betty, children Bill, Luana, Rich and Jan, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great- great-grandchildren. |
