| Sturgis Journal (Sturgis, Michigan) Saturday, December 9, 2017 Edward G. Clementz (1929-2017) Edward George Clementz, age 88, of Las Vegas, and formerly of Constantine, died Dec. 6, 2017, in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 27, 1929, the oldest son of Robert E. and Luvetta B. (Daniels) Clementz. Ed graduated from White Pigeon High School, where he played on the basketball and baseball teams. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. On Jan. 27, 1951, he married Charlene M. Hamilton at Messiah Lutheran Church in Constantine. She preceded him in death in 2013. They enjoyed 62 1/2 years together, traveling throughout the U.S., including a trip to Hawaii and wintering in Las Vegas and Arizona. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Constantine, serving on church council, building committee, assisted with men's breakfast for Easter and other church celebrations. Ed was employed at Constantine Creamery for 44 years, retiring in 1996. He was a lifetime member and past commander of Constantine American Legion, ran bingo games, assisted with the boat races and marched in Memorial Day and Fourth of July parades as color and honor guard. Ed assisted in many military funerals and participated as a color guard for the Constantine Falcons football games. He served as assistant fire chief and volunteer fireman for more than 20 years, and helped with numerous fish fries and fundraisers for the fire trucks and rescue squad. Ed was an avid U-M fan, Constantine Falcons fan and honorary Wickenburg (Ariz.) Wranglers fan. After selling his home in Constantine, he relocated to Las Vegas to live with his daughter and son-in-law in summer of 2014. He enjoyed the weather and trips around California, Arizona and Nevada. Special thanks to his son-in-law Doug for being Ed's caretaker for the past 18 months. Surviving are a daughter, Lou Ann (Doug) Pippenger of Las Vegas; a son, Douglas E. Clementz of Wickenburg, Ariz.; grandchildren Joshua Rogers and Elizabeth (JR) Brink of Las Vegas, and John (Shawn) Pippenger and Kristal (James) Jourdan of Michigan; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers George Clementz, Rodger (Connie) Clementz and Daniel (Cathy) Clementz, all of Michigan; a sister, Jane (Perry) Shepherd; a sister-in law, Pat Clementz of Michigan; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Charlene; a grandson, Matthew Rogers; and a brother, Donald Clementz. Services will be held in the spring at Messiah Lutheran Church. Arrangements will be announced by Eley Funeral Home in Constantine. Memorials may be directed to Messiah Lutheran Church, Good Samaritan Lutheran Church in Las Vegas or Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas. See Also: Find A Grave |
