Killed Himself With Morphine

McCabe Miner Commits Suicide Yesterday

Leaves No Explanation of Motice (sic) Which Actuated Him to Commit
Rash Act.

George Keller, a miner from McCabe, and a member of the Miners'
union at that place, also a member of the Red Men's lodge at the
same place, was found dead on Thursday morning in a room of the
Miners' Home, adjoining the Scopel building.

Keller came in from McCabe a few day since and it is alleged had
been drinking considerably, also gambling and is said to have lost a
large amount of money, as he had only ten cents in his pocket when
found.

He went to his room Wednesday afternoon and failing to show up next
morning, Mr. Valentine, proprietor of the place, went to his room
and found him dead on the bed.

On a wash stand near him was a bottle containing about half an ounce
of morphine the supposition being that Keller had purchased a full
bottle and had taken the other half of it.

No word of any kind was left by him indicating the motive which
actuated him in taking his own life.

Mr. Valentine says he spoke to him about two of his sisters'
children, orphans, and whom he had been taking care of, being taken
to the Crittenton home at Phoenix and this has given rise to that
despondency caused from their departure caused the suicide.

Justice Talbot presided at an inquest held over the remains, the
verdict of the jury being that death was caused by an overdose of
morphine taken with suicidal intent.

Deceased was about thirty-five years of age and seemed to be very
popular with his fellow miners, a number of them having come in from
McCabe yesterday.

He has a married brother who is also a miner and who has been
residing, with his family at McCabe.

The remains were taken to Logan's undertaking parlors from where the
funeral will take place this afternoon at 3:30 o;clock under the
auspices of the Red Men's lodge of McCabe, the Prescott lodge of the
Red Men also joining with them in paying their last respects to a
deceased brother.

Transcriber's note: Mr. Keller is buried in an unmarked grave at the
Citizens Cemetery in Prescott, Arizona.
